Serving Our Community:
West Chester Interfaith Gleaning Project

The Interfaith Gleaning Project is supported by four churches with the goal of growing fruits and vegetables to provide area food banks with fresh foods.

We are adopting the Square Foot Gardening Plan where each square foot of space handles one vegetable. And the normal raised bed is 4'x4', so sixteen different vegetables could be growing there. The garden is located in Downingtown Borough.

How Can You Help?

Volunteer: On an on-going basis, as people have the time, we will need to tend to the garden with weeding (hopefully minimal) and harvesting the crops.  Then we will need to deliver the veggies to where they are needed via our Delivery Personnel. The Lord's Pantry is less than two blocks away, but other organizations have needs, as well.

UPDATE - July 8, 2007

The West Chester Interfaith Gleaning Project have started harvesting some of their veggies and giving them to the Lord's Pantry, a service for those in need, in the surrounding area. The four congregations have split up the maintenance duties on a weekly basis. Our congregation's turn is July 8-14 and August 5-11. We need volunteers to water, weed, harvest and deliver veggies to the Lord's Pantry. If you are available and can help please contact Barry Eichhorn at 610-436-9158.
